Kenyan Project
Once we had completed our around the world project Ms. McG paired us up with another person in the class who had one country in common with you. I was paired with Alanna and were had to work on Kenya. Each pair had to crate a powerpoint, poster and give a 5 minute presentation to the class.
As part of our project Alanna and I contacted the Kenyan Embassy for additional information on Kenya. The lady were had contacted sent us a very detailed powerpoint, a DVD on the Kenyan Wildlife and some information booklets. We took some of the information from her powerpoint and some of our information we found in our research and combined them them into 1 presentation for the class. We also showed the class the DVD which was truly amazing and inspired people to travel to Kenya in the future. Success!
Our first
geography project this year was to plan a virtual trip around the world. We had
to choose 2 First World countries, 2 Second World countries and 2 Third World
Countries to visit. we were each given a budget of €12,000 to keep us going for
the year, however nearly everyone has organised jobs for the year just in case
we run out of money from visiting to many extravagant places :) We must create
a powerpoint on our 6 countries and investigate different factors of the
countries culture including sport, food, religion and politics. We must also
include where we plan to stay while in the chosen country and which places we
intend to visit.
1st World:
New Zealand
United Arab Emirates
2nd World:
China
India
3rd World:
Madagascar
Kenya
New Zealand
I
chose to visit New Zealand on my trip as I have never visited this country
before and I also love their hot climate of course! New Zealand’s is also one
of the biggest countries for surfing which is a personal interest of mine. My plan was to work as a life guard or
surfing instructor while I’m over there as I am officially qualified to do so
now. New Zealand is known for many things including its sandy beaches, beautiful
scenery, rugby and its old tribal culture. On my visit I would love to see the “All
Blacks” play in their home stadium. I would also love to learn more about their previous tribal cultures.
United Arab Emirates
I chose to visit the Dubai in United Arab Emirates because it is quite different to the other countries I have chosen to visit. The UAE as it is home to some of the most extravagant
buildings in the whole world such as the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Dubai also has some very impressive man-made islands off it's coast, known as thee Palm and The World. Under these islands are some extraordinary marine life. The fish are attracted to this location as there is loads of sand banks and equipment under the island which are used to support them. There is even a double-Decker bus at the bottom of the sea for the fish to swim through. The UAE is a very religious country with specific dress code requirements for both en and women. This would be quite interesting for me to see as I have never experienced some like it before.
I chose to visit China as it is one of the most populated countries in the world. China’s culture is also completely different to that of Ireland. As China is such a vast country there is so much you can do. While visiting the country I would like to see both urban and rural sides of China. I would love to visit cities such as Hong Kong and Beijing to see the old Olympic stadiums and visit some interesting museums. I would also like to visit “The Great Wall of China”. I would like to spend at least a month travelling to different parts of the country and staying in hostels. While in China I would also like to the opportunity to try new foods. It would be a very unique experience for me.
I chose to visit India as it’s culture and way of living is extremely different to the way I am used to living here in Ireland. I would love to learn more about India’s religious beliefs and practices. I am also amazed by the temples all around India and I really want to go and visit them and actually see the great architecture and details that is involved in these great temples. India is renounced for it’s large scale shanty towns, I would just like to see what is like to be living in such poor conditions and what some peoples daily lives are like. India is also quite famous for Cricket. I would like to see a game of cricket being played in a national stadium if possible.
I chose to visit Madagascar as It has
some of the most extravagant plants and animals in the world. This is
a result of its very pleasant climate. the coastal regions are
comparatively warm than the other places. Mainly 2 seasons
are perceived in the country. these are summer and Winter. Summer
months are hot and wet. While winter months are cold and dry. Madagascar is
also famous for its music. Most contemporary and traditional Malagasy music has dance rhythms with influences from
Indonesia and the African mainland, Kenya. Madagascar also offers some amazing
pars for tourists to visit like the Tsingy de bemaraha, Ambohimanga and the
Ranomafana national Park.
Kenya
I chose to visit Kenya because of it's very strong Africian culture, including dress, dance, food and sports. I would like to learn more about the traditional Kenyan tribes and their ancient dances. I would also like to taste some of the classic Kenyan dishes such as Ugali, Githeri and Kenyan Pilau. Kenya is also home to Rudisha, the fastest 800m runner in history. He broke his own world record at the Olympic Stadium and won Gold in 1.40.91. Kenya also overs a wide range of tourists attractions for example the Maasai Mara which is the Kenyan portion of the great Serengeti Plains, which means that it is quite simply one of the most astounding wildlife parks in the world. Throughout all of Kenya there are a wide range of Safaris to go on. I wouldn't miss the opportunity to go on a Safari while I am there!
Your scrap book that documents your trip around the world looks great! Well done on that. I loved working with you on the Kenyan project it was really interesting to learn about such a beautiful country! I hope to visit there in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alanna. I found our Kenyan project really interesting and enjoyable. I love the DVD that the Kenyan Embassy sent us. This project has made me realize how much I want to travel to Kenya when I am older.
